SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The expanded 12-team College Football Playoff brings a playoff quarterfinal to the Fiesta Bowl with 3-seed Boise State as the automatic qualifier.
Boise State earned a first-round bye and awaits the winner of 11-seed SMU at 6-seed Penn State.
Seats are still available on the reseller sites for all CFP games.
SMU closed the regular season with a 34-31 loss to Clemson in the ACC title game.
Penn State’s last outing was a 45-37 loss to No. 1 Oregon in the Big Ten Championship.
The early Vegas line favored Penn State by two scores over SMU for the quarterfinal bid against Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl.
